Scholars urge youth to stick to mother tongue
Scholars during a seminar here voiced their disgruntlement over the commercialisation of education. Organised by the Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, in collaboration with Khalsa College Amritsar, the event was dedicated to poet Dev Dard and storyteller Talwinder Singh.
The scholars protested the commercialisation of education during a seminar ‘Ajoki Sikhya Niti Ate Mat Bhasha’ (current education policy and mother language). They exhorted the younger generations to stick to their culture, heritage and mother tongue.
The event started with welcome speeches by president of the sabha, Darshan Buttar and Shusil Dusanjh, while Deep Devinder Singh shared the details of the event.
Linguist Surjit Singh Bhatti said the new education policy favoured business houses. He said there was a need to fight together for the safety of their mother tongue.
Journalist Satnam Manak emphasised the need for a trilingual formula and said that every state in India had its own regional language, which needed to be encouraged. He opposed the privatisation of education.
