Police have booked seven SAD workers, residents of Failoke village, for assaulting an AAP worker Hardeep Singh of the same village on Sunday.

Rivalry in the panchayat elections is said to be the reason behind the incident. Sub-inspector Baljinder Singh, SHO, Goindwal Sahib, said that five of the seven accused SAD workers have been identified as Rajwinder Singh Raju, Gurbir Singh, Kanwaljit Singh, Gurjinder Singh and Nachhattar Singh. Two other accused are yet to be identified.

Nachhattar Singh is the district in-charge of IT wing of the SAD. Gurnishan Singh, brother of the injured, in his statement to the police, said that the accused attacked his brother Hardeep Singh when he had gone to his fields on a motorcycle on Sunday morning. Gurnishan Singh said that Nachhatar Singh fired at his brother and the others beat him up severely and removed his turban too. The SHO said that a case under Section 109, 298, 115 (2), 3 (5) of the BNS and Section 25 and 27 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused. He said that the pro-AAP candidate had won the election and the rival group attacked his brother in a fit of anger. Hardeep Singh was admitted to the Community Health Centre, Kairon, for treatment.
