Simranjit Singh Mann, president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and former Member of Parliament from Sangrur, voiced concern over air and soil pollution in the city during his visit to Bhagtanwala dump.

The party is planning to start a Morcha over the issue. He targeted elected representative of various parties, who promised to provide a solution to the dump.

“This dump is a black spot on our forehead. Politicians visit here before every election and assure to remove the garbage from here. They claim to provide a scientific co solution based on international parameters but do not fulfill their promises. AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal had assured to give the status of Holy City to Amritsar but did nothing,” said Simranjit Singh Mann.

“When Sikhs go to Lahore with jathas to visit gurdwaras there, they complain about the putrid smell of Bhagtanwala dump. The stink of garbage goes everywhere, including Darbar Sahib and Durgiana Temple. Everyone is getting affected. The voters should not cast their votes for political parties that do not fulfill their promises,” he added.

Meanwhile, SAD (A) leader Imaan Singh Mann said, “The mountains of garbage should be processed scientifically and removed. It is polluting the environment of the holy city. We are planning to start a Morcha and struggle to raise the issue.”
