Dr Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the National Apprenticeship Council (NAC), as per a recent notification by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

In this esteemed role, Sahney will work closely with key stakeholders to drive the government’s mission of enhancing vocational training and apprenticeships across the country.

Youth in Amritsar and from other districts were being provided jobs in various sectors. These youths have been trained at the Multi-Skill Development Centre, Amritsar, being run by Sahney’s NGO, Sun Foundation.

“Over 100 youth of Punjab were employed by Sun Foundation in the private sector. We have expansion plans ahead to make the Punjabi youth self-reliant. My goal is to give at least 50,000 jobs to trained students by upgrading the ITIs as world-class skill centres with the latest machinery according to the present industry standards and train youth as per the industry needs, he said.

The centre runs short-term courses free of cost for Punjabi youth in fitter, solar panel technician, graphic designer, nursing, food and beverage, sales executive, customer care, data entry, electrician, welder, technician, fashion designing and artisans, textile and Phulkari designing, and various other courses.

Upon his new appointment, Sahney said, “Apprentices will receive a stipend, of which 50 per cent is reimbursable to the employer by the government. The apprenticeship will span a period of one year, offering young individuals the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job training.”

Sahney said an Apprenticeship Mela was organised today across eight different Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Punjab. The event witnessed over 4,000 students registering for the apprenticeship training programme, marking a step forward in bridging the gap between education and employment.
