Robbers’ gang busted in Amritsar, 4 held with mobiles

With the arrest of four persons, the city police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers and recovered 10 snatched mobile phones from their possession. The police also seized two sharp weapons, an iron rod and a bike used in the crime from them.

Those arrested were identified as Arshdeep Singh, aka Kela (19), of Kot Wadhawa on the Tarn Taran road, Lovepreet Singh (21) of Bhai Veer Singh of Mule Chak village, Shamsher Singh (19) of Kot Wadhawa and Kuljit Singh (23) of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar of the Tarn Taran road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Alam Vijay Singh said the accused had confessed to have committed as many as seven snatchings in the city. They were arrested from Sultanwind area.

“Arshdeep was the kingpin of the gang and he had four cases of snatchings registered against him while Kuljit Singh faced a kidnapping case,” said the DCP. He said two days ago, they had looted Sadhu Ram of Guru Nanak Colony and his friend Anup Kumar of a mobile phone and cash by brandishing a sharp-edged weapon.

Similarly, on August 22, they had robbed a SGPC employee, Paramjit Singh, from Daburji when he was going to attend his duty at Gurudwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh. They had attacked him with sharp-edged weapons leaving him injured.

The accused were brought on police remand and further probe was on.
