Roadside encroachments irk residents in Tarn Taran
A number of representatives of political and social organizations of the town have taken a serious note of illegal encroachments on both sides of roads in the town (Tarn Taran).
Heera Singh Kandianwala, Devinder Singh Pannun, Baldev Singh Pandori and others said both side berms and roadsides of almost all the roads in the town can be seen encroached by four-wheelers throughout the day, causing traffic jams as well as road accidents frequently.
They said encroachments by roadsides lead to great inconvenience to students who fail to reach their institutions or other destinations on time. Elderly people too face difficulty in crossing roads. Moreover, vehicles remain parked in front of shops or other commercial establishments for hours which affect traders’ businesses.
The representatives alleged that most of the officials of the district administration often pass roads of the town and they too face trouble but they do not take steps to remove the encroachments.
They said both sides of the road in front of the office of SDM in Tarn Taran too is not spared where encroachments can be seen. They said though they have brought the matter to the notice of the authorities concerned, there has been no improvement in the situation. They said no official has ever called a meeting of public representatives to listen to people’s grievances.
Arwinderpal Singh, SDM-cum-Administrator of the local municipal council (MC), and Kamaljit Singh, Executive Officer (EO), of the MC did not respond to mobile phone calls and WhatsApp messages.
