A youth has been booked for allegedly raping a minor of his village for the past three years on the pretext of marriage. The incident came to light when the victim tried to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance.

Victim’s mother said on Thursday, her 15-year-old daughter complained of a pain and told her mother that she had consumed poison. She was rushed to a private hospital. After her health improved, the old girl told her mother that the youth had been sexually exploiting her for the past three years on the pretext of marrying her. When he refused to marry her, she decided to end her life, the girl said.

On a complaint by victim’s mother, the Majitha police have registered a case under Sections 376, 306, 506 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against the youth.

Woman alleges rape, one booked

The Ajnala police have booked Jaswant Singh of Saidpur Khurd village for allegedly raping a woman from the same village.

The 24-year-old victim told the police that Jaswant Singh had fields adjoining her house and so he visited her house often. On February 4, when she was alone as her family was away for work, Jaswant came to her house, took her to sugarcane fields and raped her.

Though the incident occurred around 10 days ago, the victim lodged a complaint with the police only on Friday. A case under Section 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. Police officials said a medical examination of the victim would be conducted, after which further proceedings would be initiated.
