Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday paid obeisance at Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi located at Ranjit Avenue in Amritsar.

It is learnt that the CM was on his tour to Hoshiarpur for the November 20 Assembly bypolls and stayed at night in Amritsar. In the morning, he visited the gurdwara on the occasion of the 555th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev.

“Since I was here during the occasion, I chose to visit the gurdwara. I deliberately avoided visiting the Golden Temple to avoid unnecessary chaos that my visit could have caused. The devotees visit the Golden Temple to celebrate the occasion and it could have led to inconvenience for them,” he said.

Avoiding political queries of the media, he congratulated the ‘Nanak naam leva Sangat’ for the grand occasion and wished everyone to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.

He reminded of the Guru’s teaching of ‘Naam Japo’, ‘Kirt Karo’ and ‘Vand Shako’ (meditate upon God’s name, engage in ethical, honest labour and use the wealth and time in selfless service). He also narrated the story of Bhai Lalo with a message about the importance of honest work and earning a living with honesty and integrity rather than dishonest means.

“Guru Sahib taught us service to humanity and spread the message by walking down lakhs of km on foot during his divine journey. I wish that the Guru’s photo should be at every home and his teachings are followed by all,” he said.
