The district Agriculture Department on Monday organised an event at Mallu Nangal village to celebrate the World Pulses Day with an objective to motivate farmers to cultivate pulses. On the occasion, agriculture experts discussed farm practices and seasons of various varieties of pulses.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Dalbir Singh Chinna said farmers should grow pulses at least for their consumption if they were apprehensive of growing the crop on a large scale. He said farmers could decrease their kitchen expenses as prices of pulses were high.
Agriculture Development Officer Jatinder singh Gill said the cultivation of pulses could also help in increasing the income of farmers. He said many varieties of pulses could be sown as a third crop along with the paddy and wheat crops.
