In an irony of sorts, a physical training instructor died in a mishap the day news of his promotion came. Ranjit Singh, 48, a resident of Sursing who was posted at Government High School, Pahuwind, as a PTI teacher, was electrocuted in his house on October 2 (Wednesday). His last rites were performed in the presence of his relatives, colleagues and area residents.

In the meantime, the promotion cell of the Department of Public Instruction (Secondary), SAS Nagar, Mohali, released a list of as many as 300 PTI teachers in the state who had been promoted to the Master cadre (DPE). The name of Ranjit Singh appeared at serial number 4 in the list.

Amardeep Singh, district president, Physical Education Teachers Association, Punjab said that the demise of Ranjit Singh was a tragedy that would remain etched in their hearts forever. He said that Ranjit Singh was not only a good human being but an honest and hardworking teacher too. He said it was ironic that he died in a mishap the day news of his promotion was received.
