Renowned tabla artiste Rimpa Siva, popularly called ‘Princess of Tabla’, from Farrukhabad gharana, performed at the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) at a musical event, ‘Swar-Amrit’, organised by the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

Trained by her father Swapan Siva, a tabla artist, this was Rimpa’s first performance in Amritsar. “It feels good as an artist to be performing in front of an appreciative audience and also artists,” said Siva as she addressed the audience before her performance.

Padma Shri awardee Ustad Puran Chand Wadali was among the audience. Earlier, Harsimran Singh, a young scholar of Indian classical music, opened the event.
