Portugal-based gangster Mann Ghanshampuria among two booked for extortion
The Amritsar rural police have launched a probe into an extortion case involving Portugal-based gangster Manpreet Singh alias Mann Ghanshampuria and his accomplice Jobanjit Singh. The duo demanded ₹50 lakh from a local resident, threatening to kill him if the amount wasn’t paid.
This incident is part of a larger pattern of extortion and intimidation by the Mann Ghanshampuria gang. On August 23, a garment trader received an extortion threat from the duo, followed by a firing incident outside his shop. The trader alleged that the gang demanded ₹40 lakh and threatened dire consequences if the money wasn’t paid.
Earlier, on August 16, police arrested three accomplices linked to the gang for firing at a bookstore owner and demanding ₹50 lakh in extortion money. The police seized weapons, mobile phones, a vehicle, and Rs 18,000 cash from those arrested.
The Mann Ghanshampuria gang is wanted for multiple criminal cases in the Amritsar rural area, including a fatal shooting on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls in Lakhowal village.
