Police crack showroom robbery case, two held

With the arrest of two suspects, the Amritsar (Rural) police today cracked a robbery case in which an electronic goods showroom owner was looted by six armed persons on gunpoint in the Guruwali area here on July 30. The suspects had decamped with cash worth
Rs 1.45 lakh, a gold bracelet and four brand new mobile phones from the showroom of Surinderpal Singh, a resident of Ganda Singh Colony, here.
Charanjit Singh, SSP, Amritsar, (Rural) said those arrested were identified as Manpreet Singh, alias Rohit, alias Randhawa, a resident of the Aman Avenue, and Shamsher Singh, alias Shera, a resident of the Chatiwind area. The police seized two country-made weapons along with four live cartridges from their possession. The police also impounded the bike on which they were travelling.
Rohit had eight criminal cases registered against him, the SSP said. He said the duo along with Sandeep Singh, a resident of Sahensra village, Sharanjit Singh, alias Deba, a resident of Bhinder Colony, Gurbhinder Singh, a resident of Mai Burji Jhita Chet Singh, and Joban, alias Love, a resident of Varpal, had looted the showroom owner. He said the suspects were brought on police remand for further investigation. A probe was on to recover cash, gold bracelet and mobile phones looted from the victim. The SSP said raids were on to nab accomplices of the suspects who were on the run.
Surinderpal told the police that he runs an electronic goods showroom in Heritage City of the Guruwali area. He said at 8.13 pm yesterday, four persons with covered faces entered his showroom. They pointed a pistol at him and asked him to handover everything which he had while threatening to shoot him, Surinderpal said.
He said the suspects snatched his gold bracelet, an expensive mobile phone and Rs 20,000 in cash from his pocket. Later, the suspects took out Rs 1.25 lakh kept in the cash box, besides taking three brand new mobile phones and fled towards Amritsar, Surinderpal said.
