‘Overcharging’ at Amritsar Airport parking draws flak
Amritsar, January 14
The issue of overcharging at the parking lot of Sri Guru Ram Das Jee international Airport in Amritsar keeps cropping up time and again. This time, some activists of the FlyAmritsar Initiative and Amritsar Vikas Manch have initiated an online campaign to make visitors aware about the actual rate list and report it to the higher authorities in case of overcharging. The activists tagged the parking slips as proof of overcharging to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). In the slips shared by the activists, overcharging is clearly visible. The activists also motivate visitors to complain to the AAI about the overcharging at the parking.
In a recent tweet from the page of Amritsar Vikas Manch, the activists tagged Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia and AAI officials saying that “despite regular complaints, the parking contractors at the Amritsar airport continued to charge any amount they want, instead of the usual Rs 20 or Rs 55. Please take quick action”.
Sameep Singh Gumtala of the FlyAmritsar Initiative said, “The issue of overcharging by parking contractor comes up again and again. As per the rates fixed by the airport authorities, for the first 30 minutes, bus-truck operators have to pay Rs 30 and Rs 20 for a car or mini bus. The parking rate for a two-wheeler is Rs 10. The parking contractor should charge Rs 55 for a car for a time period ranging from half-an-hour to two hours. But here, the parking contractor is charging Rs 100 to Rs 120. We asked the victims of overcharging to share the slips of their parking fee so that we can take up matter with the higher authorities.”
