Over 200 teachers on poll duty, Aujla seeks CM’s intervention
Member of Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla while addressing a press conference today said over 200 teachers from Amritsar had been deployed on election duty. He said no teacher had taken classes for months’ altogether.
“There should be an investigation into why teachers are absent from schools. If they are on election duty then it is the incompetence of the government and the administration. Officials are playing with future of children,” said Aujla.
The MP also sent written information to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in this regard. He said out of 1,245 teachers from Amritsar rural and urban areas, 200 teachers were absent from duty for the last many months. He said Mann had announced that teachers would not be assigned any non-teaching work. Now teachers, especially computer teachers, were doing the non-teaching work.
“Examinations are due in March and teachers have not yet completed syllabus,” he said. Aujla said due to incomplete syllabus and absence of teachers, the future of students was at stake. He demanded immediate intervention of Mann and Education Minister Harjot Bains into the matter.
