The Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab, has given a nod to in-person counselling directly by college/institutions for admission to the three-year course at several government, aided and un-aided law colleges in the state on the recommendations of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar.

The committee constituted to conduct centralised online counselling had written to the Education Secretary, Higher Education, that 1,209 seats out of 2,342 seats remained vacant in 36 law colleges, affiliated to four state-run universities, even after three rounds of counselling. The university authorities received a notification, stating that the remaining seats at all colleges could now be filled through in-person counselling by the college/institute on the basis of merit in qualifying marks and other parameters.

Dr Amit Kauts, coordinator, online counselling, GNDU, said, “The earlier notification stated that the seats in all law colleges were to be filled through centralised counselling. Even after three rounds of online counselling, a large number of seats remained vacant. Thus, we wrote to the Department of Higher Education in this regard. We have already uploaded the schedule for in-person counselling on the Punjab law admissions portal.”

He said standard operating procedures (SOPs) for colleges to conduct in-person counselling had also been uploaded on the website. “Interested candidates, who have already registered themselves for law admission portal, will be given preference over candidates who have not registered themselves for online counselling earlier,” he added. The university also gave a time frame for fresh registrations. All interested candidates can see the details on Punjab law admissions website (https://punjablawadmissions.gndu.ac.in).
