Heera Singh, security guard of the Government Polytechnic College, where the IIM is located, stated to the police that he was at the gate while several students were standing near a kiosk outside the campus. Meanwhile, a Nihang came there on a bike and started using abusive language and threatened students not to smoke. Some students came back inside campus while others boarded a bus on the institution’s premises.

He said the Nihang forced his entry into the IIM campus and boarded a bus parked on the premises. He threatened students not to smoke outside the campus. The Nihang said if they did so he would chop their hands.

The incident took place when students were heading towards hostel from the temporary IIM campus on the institute’s bus.
