Nambardar shot dead in Amritsar’s Kathunangal area, 3 arrested
A dispute between schoolchildren escalated into violence when a youth, accompanied by armed accomplices, shot dead a nambardar, Bhagwant Singh, in Sarhala village under the Kathunangal police station here last evening.
The incident occurred around 7 pm when the victim was at home. The assailants arrived in two cars, barged into the residence, and opened fire, killing Bhagwant Singh on the spot.
The police responded swiftly, arresting three suspects within 24 hours — Amanpreet Singh, Daler Singh, and Jagmanpreet Singh, all from Mardi Kalan village. A licensed revolver and a car were seized from them.
DSP Jaspal Singh Dhillon and SHO Khushboo Sharma confirmed that a case of murder was registered against the suspects, and raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
Raghubir Singh, the complainant, stated that the incident occurred when Bhagwant Singh was at home. The accused, armed with firearms, arrived in two cars and shot him dead.
Manjinder Singh, a relative of the deceased, expressed concern over Punjab’s law and order situation. “The government has failed to address rampant drug abuse and goondaism, destroying Punjab.”
The SHO praised the police’s swift action. “Through meticulous investigation and tireless efforts, our officers identified, located, and arrested the individuals responsible for this heinous crime, recovering the weapon, live cartridges, and the vehicle used.”
