Taking cognizance of the rampant encroachment and garbage piled up on the posh Novelty Chowk on Lawrence Road, the MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today brought the officials of MC, electricity and horticulture departments, along to show them the ground realities today.

He warned that if the situation was not rectified within 15 days, he would sit on an indefinite hunger strike under protest.

MP first held a meeting in the office with MC’s health officers Dr. Yogesh Sharma, Dr Kiran, Assistant Medical Officer Dr. Rama, Electricity Department’s Executive Mandeep Singh and later called them up on the Novelty Chowk. He said that the municipal corporation officials should make estimates for these works and he will provide funds from his quota.

He told the officials to get up from their seats and see the situation at the ground level at least three days a week. “It is a pity to see the filthy conditions at the busiest place which is located in the heart of the holy city, But the MC has turned a blind eye to it. I was told about the fund crunch, but they cannot shy away from their responsibilities. It is the Punjab government which was negligent in keeping the city clean. Work is being done on files but is far from reality.

He said that earlier in the meeting with the officials, he also reviewed the garbage lifting in the city. “I have been told that it will be resolved within 15 days. I have warned them that if the situation still prevails, I will sit on an indefinite hunger strike to wake up the government, th MC and the health departments”, he said.
