Miscreant tries to escape cops in Amritsar, sustains injuries in crossfire

A miscreant sustained bullet injuries after the police opened fire at him in self-defence when he tried to snatch a rifle from an official while they were trying to recover the items that he had robbed and hidden on the Verka-Majitha Bypass here today.

The miscreant, identified as Suraj, is a resident of Bhindi Saidan village and was wanted in two snatching cases. He sustained a bullet injury on his foot. The police have launched a search operation to apprehend the accomplice, identified as Gurkirat, of the injured robber.  The duo had targeted two NRI women and snatched their bags in separate cases recently.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the injured accused had hidden the robbed items at the site of the crossfire. He said the injured gangster has been hospitalised, and the police were interrogating him.
