With a sharp dip in the temperatures, the state government has announced an early winter break for the schools in the state. With the night temperature hovering around 6 degrees Celsius (as reported on Tuesday) and morning temperatures between 11 and 12 degrees Celsius, cold wave conditions have affected normal life in the city.

In a recent notification, it has been said that keeping in view the winter season in all the government, private-aided and recognized schools of Punjab during the year 2024 from December 24 till 31, this direction is for all government, private-aided and recognised schools of the state.

The school timings were earlier revised from 9am to 3pm in November given the onset of winter. It is relevant to state that the Punjab Government had declared holidays for schools earlier in May 2024 as heat wave conditions that prevailed in the state had become unbearable. All schools in the state were announced to go on an early summer break between May 21 and June 30.
