Amritsar MC official takes stock of bioremediation work at Bhagtanwala dump
Municipal Corporation (MC) Additional Commissioner Surinder Singh visited the Bhagtanwala garbage dump along with health officials here today. Surinder Singh said earlier there were a lot of problems in the garbage dump, but things were now getting streamlined. He said the MC had already started bioremediation project at the garbage dump. The Additional Commissioner said clear instructions were given to officials of the solid waste management company to speed up the bioremediation work.
Surinder Singh said for a long time, people living around large heaps of garbage were facing several health and other issues. The MC also received many complaints in this connection, he said. He instructed MC Health Officer Dr Kiran Kumar, solid waste management company manager Pankaj Upadhyay, Chief Sanitary Inspector Sarabjit Singh and firm officials to install more machinery at the dump for faster bioremediation of the legacy waste.
Surinder Singh said through bioremediation of the RDF waste, which includes non-hazardous, residential, industrial, commercial, construction and demolition waste, other materials were produced from it. These materials were used in road construction work, he said, while adding that they were coordinating with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in this regard. He said the NHAI would lift materials from the dump for the road construction work.
