A married woman identified as Gianvati (22) allegedly ended life by hanging from the ceiling of her house. She was allegedly perturbed over harassment by her husband identified as Arun Kumar, a resident of Bareilly, now residing in a house on the Loharaka road here.

Though the incident happened on Thursday, the police registered a case yesterday after a complaint was lodged by the woman’s brother. Kisamati Sahni, victim’s brother, a resident of Ludhiana, stated to the police that Gianvati was married to Arun Kumar around two years ago. The couple had one-year-old son. He alleged that his sister’s husband used to beat her on one pretext or other. The victim had told them about this and when they intervened the suspect promised to mend his ways, but he did not. He alleged that on Thursday, his sister ended her life by hanging from an iron girder of the ceiling.
