Man stabs wife, son, immolates himself

In a shocking incident, a man immolated himself after stabbing his wife and son in the Shingar Nagar locality of the Mustafabad area falling under the Sadar police station here on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
While Anil Kumar (50) died on the spot, his wife Sonia and son Shivam were admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.
The police got information about the incident from the hospital when the woman and son were admitted there.
Vinod Kumar Sharma, SHO, Sadar police station, said after Sonia and Shivam were admitted to the hospital by her brother for treatment, Anil Kumar bolted doors of the room from inside and set himself on fire. He was grievously burnt and died on the spot. Sonia’s condition was also stated to be serious. The SHO said as per preliminary probe, Anil was mentally upset. He said further investigation was in progress.
Komal, a relative of Sonia, told the police that Anil was unemployed due to which he was very upset. Anil along with his wife and son lived in a rented accommodation in the Shingar Nagar locality. She said yesterday, all family members went to sleep. She said in the morning hours, Anil Kumar woke up and allegedly stabbed his wife with a knife leaving her seriously injured. Hearing her screams, Shivam also woke up and tried to save his mother. Anil attacked him too.
Hearing the noise, their neighbours saved mother and son from Anil and called their relatives who rushed them to the hospital. Anil later bolted the doors from inside and immolated himself.
The SHO said the Anil’s body was taken into custody and sent for an autopsy. Earlier, doctors had declared the victims unfit for giving statements. The SHO said a case would be registered after recoding victims’ statements.
