Man dies after dangling Chinese string slits throat
With winter season just around the corner, the Chinese kite string has started playing havoc with the lives of people.
Haramritpal Singh aka Rajan (43), a resident of Verka and railway employee, lost his life after a dangling Chinese kite string slit his throat on Verka-Batala Road BRTS flyover here.
The incident occurred on Monday morning while he succumbed on Tuesday.
Rajan was deputed in the engineering block of the Northern Railways here. He was going to his duty on a motorcycle when the incident took place. Rajan was rushed to the hospital by the onlookers.
According to information, he was a prominent member of National Railway Mazdoor Union.
Mandeep Singh, a friend of the deceased, said that he used to run a gym in Verka. The incident has left the family and friends shocked, while the administration has failed to curb the sale of banned synthetic string even after several years.
“Every year the district administration banned the sale and purchase of Chinese kite strings besides launching awareness campaigns, but the problem remains the same. In fact, it has been assuming alarming proportions every year,” said Sarabjit Singh, a lawyer and human rights activist who was known to the victim. He demanded a probe in the incident.
