JEs to address water, choked sewer-related complaints on priority

In the wake of rising number of complaints regarding water supply and choking of sewer, the municipal corporation (MC) has made new arrangements for their early redressal. From now onwards, a junior engineer (JE) would redress complaints in his respective ward in the city.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner Harpreet Singh has deployed Sub Divisional Officers (SDOs) on the zone level and JEs on the ward level to ensure smooth functioning of sewerage and providing water supply. Superintending Engineer Surjit Singh and Executive Engineer Gurjinder Singh will look after all the five zones of the city.
Meanwhile, Central Assembly segment MLA Dr Ajay Gupta today inaugurated the installation work of a new tubewell in Indira Colony on Chabal Road. Gupta said a week ago, the bore of the tubewell in this area had failed. He tried to get it repaired, but it could not be fixed. The new tubewell would be installed at a cost of Rs 17 lakh, he said. He said the tubewell would become operational in the coming seven to eight days. He said water tankers were being sent to Indira Colony every day. Water was also being supplied to the people through motors, he added.
Gupta said in the coming days, another new tubewell would be installed in the area adjoining the Indira Colony. He instructed officials of the MC present on the spot to address water and sewer –related issues on priority.
Gupta said a permanent solution would be found for the sewerage and sanitation-related problems. The MLA said he would hold a meeting with senior officials in Chandigarh next week to discuss how to increase the capacity of the Khaparkhedi Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP). He said the capacity of the STP would be increased after taking approval from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
