Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala to get e-buses

To boost urban mobility, the Local Government Department, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, will soon launch electric buses in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala. This was stated by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema while presenting the state Budget today.
Rs 6,289 Crore for urban local areas
- Rs 6,289 cr earmarked for development of urban local areas
- Rs 900 cr for projects by the Infrastructure Development Board
- Rs 394 cr allocated under the AMRUT scheme
- Rs 538 cr provisioned under the National Urban Livelihood Mission and the Punjab Municipal Development Fund
After Ludhiana was selected under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, around 100 electric buses were proposed for the city. The details about routes, bus fares and the sites for charging stations were being worked out in coordination with the Transport Department. An additional sum of Rs 900 crore is proposed for infrastructure projects to be undertaken by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) during the fiscal year 2024-2025. The FM has proposed Rs 6,289 crore for the development of local urban area.
The government has allocated Rs 394 crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Under the National Urban Livelihood Mission and the Punjab Municipal Development Fund, Rs 538 crore has been provisioned.
