Gurmat Samagam: Students perform kirtan on Day 2
On the second day of the four-day event to mark the 450-year function organised on the Guruship of Guru Ram Das and the Jyoti Jyot Divas of Guru Amar Das, students from different educational institutions performed kirtan with Tanti instruments in Gurdwara Baoli Sahib, Goindwal Sahib on Monday. Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President SGPC, along with other office-bearers of the SGPC attended the function.
The audience was left spellbound by the voice of the member of the kirtan Jathas, who came from various institutions run by the SGPC and other institutions as well.
Competitions in Gurbani kirtan, kavishari, dhadi vars, poems,were organised and students of various schools and the colleges participated.
In the evening, competition in gatka was organised, wherein internationally renowned teams participated. While addressing the Sangat, Harjinder Singh Dhami said the land of Goindwal Sahib teaches us the lesson of equality from where Guru Amar Das started the tradition of Pangat and Sangat. Even Mughal Emperor Akbar, who came here to meet Guru Amar Das, was forced to sit in the Sangat.
Harjinder Singh Dhami condemned the Union Government which had announced to free the Sikh detainees who completed their sentence on the Holy 550 Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev but the detainees have not been freed yet. He announced to release an appreciation award of Rs 21,000 to all the Sikh Missionary schools and the colleges for participating in the Gurmat Samagam held in Goindwal Sahib on the function of the great Gurus.
