A granthi, identified as Raman Singh, a resident of Mad village, was killed by a man when he was returning home after performing a path at a Baba Bakala shrine.

On his way home, when he reached near Rayya on his cycle on late last evening, he was intercepted and attacked by accused Sahib Singh with a datar. The victim’s father father Dilbagh Singh was also accompanying him when the incident took place.

The police have registered a case on the complaint of his father and raids were on to nab the suspect, said Gagandeep Singh, SHO, Beas police station, here. Raman Singh’s illicit relations with the suspect’s wife is stated to be the reason behind the murder, he said, while adding that further investigations are in progress.

According to the police, Raman Singh was deputed as a granthi at a gurdwara in Baba Bakala and he used to arrive late in the night after his duty. He said he was married and has a three-month-old child.

He along with his father Dilbagh Singh was returning home at around 2am when Sahib Singh suddenly came on the scene. He allegedly threw some chilli powder into his eyes and later attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon leaving him critically injured and leading to his death on the spot.
