Fire broke in a double-storied shop in the busy Noordi Adda Bazaar in the early hours on Sunday. Goods worth Rs 70 lakh were reduced to ashes in the fire outbreak. Paramjit Singh, proprietor of the shop -Geet Fashion - who deals in ready-made garments, said the family was informed by devotees going to Darbar Sahib about fire at 3.30 am. When the family reached the shop, the whole complex was engulfed in fire. He said fire brigade from the local nagar council was informed. He said three fire tenders reached the spot.

Sukhdev Singh, an employee of the municipal council fire brigade, said one fire tender each from Patti and Jandiala Guru Municipal Council was called to extinguish blaze. It took three hours for firemen to control the blaze with much efforts, he said.

However, Paramjit Singh, proprietor of the shop, said fire tenders reached the spot late. He said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. As the shop was located in a busy area, owners of nearby shops also arrived and helped in the rescue operation. There were two LPG cylinders kept on the top floor of the shop which were removed just in time. The city police have initiated further proceedings into the incident.
