GNDU observes National Space Day, screens documentary
Amritsar, August 23
The Department of Education of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) celebrated the first National Space Day to honour the historic achievement of the successful landing of Chandaryaan-3 on the moon. Prof Deepa Sikand Kauts, Dean, Faculty of Education, chaired a special session, where a documentary film on the theme, “Touching Lives while touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga” was screened to offer a glimpse into our nation’s remarkable achievement and to inspire and enlighten the students about the impact on the technological landscape. The day marks the anniversary of India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission, which successfully landed on the moon’s South Pole last year.
Prof Kauts in her speech highlighted the significance of the day. “The Indian government officially designated August 23 as National Space Day in recognition of this significant achievement, reflecting India’s expanding capabilities in space exploration and highlighting the vital role of space science and technology in national development. This achievement signifies a historic milestone for the nation, as India became only the fourth country globally to successfully land a rover on the Moon and the first to do so in the southern polar region. Accompanied by the Pragyan Rover, the Vikram lander touched down at a site designated as Shiv Shakti.”
