Fourth suspect held for girl’s kidnapping

The police have arrested the fourth suspect who was allegedly part of the gang that sold a minor girl for Rs 1 lakh after allegedly kidnapping her.

The accused was identified as Vidya, alias Draupdi, of Navi Abadi in Abohar.

Earlier, the police had arrested three women, including two relatives of the minor victim, in connection to the abduction. The three women were Kiran Devi of Gandhi Nagar, Fazilka, Raj Kaur and her daughter Navjot Kaur of Chhota Haripura locality here.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Vishaljit Singh said their fifth accomplice, identified as Happy, was yet to be arrested. Raids were on to nab him.

The police rescued the 16-year-old victim from Fazilka and nominated five persons, including four women, for kidnapping.

The accused had sold the girl to one Happy for Rs 1 lakh after having kidnapped her from her house.

The victim’s father had lodged a complaint with the police in July stating that his wife had died around 10 years ago. His daughter was illiterate and used to look after the house. He said on July 13, she went missing from the house and despite efforts, he could not find her.

He suspected that some unidentified person would have kidnapped her after luring her with the prospect of marriage.
