Finally, the solid waste management firm Averda hired by the Municipal Corporation for door-to-door collection and processing of legacy waste submitted its action plan to the MC Commissioner. The newly appointed MC Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh has asked the company to provide all details of operations and also submit an action plan to streamline the lifting of garbage.

Municipal Health Officer Dr Kiran Kumar stated that the company has assured to streamline the lifting of garbage till October 15. “A written document has been submitted by the solid waste management firm, in which the office-bearers of the company assured to start the bio-remediation of legacy waste at Bhagtanwala dump. A new processing machine would be deployed at Bhagtanwala dumping ground soon. More machines would then be added to remove all the garbage from the dumping ground,” he said.

MC officials revealed that the solid waste management firm has been asked to buy 100 new door-to-door garbage collection vehicles. Around 130 worn out mini-trucks would be off road soon. “We have asked them to provide the vehicles with partition for waste segregation. Earlier, they didn’t have partition in the vehicles to keep the garbage segregated. Now, they will collect the segregated garbage from the source level and keep it separately,” said Dr Kiran Kumar.

The company will also buy new compactors to transport the waste to Bhagtanwala dump. MC officials claimed that they have mentioned dates in the action plan and in case the company fails to implement it, the contract would be terminated.

“We have given several chances to the firm to improve its functioning and streamline the door-to-door collection of garbage but there was no improvement. It is our final call, in case the firm does not fulfill its promises, we will terminate the contract,” said the Municipal Health Officer.
