Fill vacant posts: Teachers to Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains

Representatives of different teacher unions, in a letter sent to Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains on Wednesday, demanded that vacant posts of officials and principals of Government Senior Secondary Schools in the district should be filled up at the earliest.
The leaders of Democratic Teachers’ Front, Government School Teachers Union and others claimed in the letter that the posts of District Education Officer (Secondary and Elementary), besides that of the Deputy Education Officer (Secondary) was lying vacant, affecting the performance of the department.
The union representatives said that senior secondary schools have a significant role to play in the higher education of the students but the Education Department was not concerned over filling up the posts of principal of Government Senior Secondary Schools. The representatives said out of the 77 Government Senior Secondary Smart Schools, 44 were without principals.
Only 16 posts of Headmaster out of the total 96 Government High Schools were filled and the remaining 80 had no school head. Partap Singh, Kanwardeep Singh Dhillon and other union leaders demanded that all vacant posts of officials and principals be filled up without delay for better performance of the schools.
