Dr Karamjeet Singh appointed Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University
Eminent academician Dr Karamjeet Singh has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. The appointment, made for a period of three years, was announced through an order issued by the Governor’s secretariat.
Dr Karamjeet Singh, who holds an MCom and a PhD degree in Finance, brings with him 38 years of teaching and research experience. Prior to his appointment, he was serving as the vice-chancellor of Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, since 2020.
Throughout his career, Dr Singh has held various administrative positions, including being a syndicate member of Panjab University, Chandigarh, and a member of UGC Expert Committee. He was also conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 for his significant contributions to the field of education.
Dr Karamjeet Singh succeeds Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu, who served as the vice-chancellor of GNDU from June 2017 to November 16. The appointment comes after concerns were raised by Gurjeet Singh Aujla, a Congress Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar. Aujla highlighted that the university was being run without a vice-chancellor for the first time in its history.
