The 44th three-day district-level primary school games began with a colorful display of traditional gatka and rural sports at the Guru Nanak Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

District Education Officer (Elementary) Kanwaljit Singh said 800 primary students would participate in several games and sports events over a period of three days. “Sports teach us the lesson of discipline; the body remains strong with sports,” he said.

Block Amritsar-1 won the first position while Verka won the second position in kabaddi national style event; and Amritsar-1 stood first and Chogawan-2 stood second in kabaddi circle style event. Sahik Khan from Tarsikka won the first position in 25 kg category of wrestling.

In other events, Ishmit Singh from Amritsar-1 came first while Babla from Amritsar Block-5 came second in 28 kg class lifting event. Other winners in lifting included Gurpreet Singh from Chogawan-2, Dilpreet Singh from Amritsar-3 in 30 kg class, Ramjan from Ajnala-1, Rafi from Amritsar-I in 32 kg class and Abanib from Amritsar-2 in 32 kg class.
