District admn to host first Vigyan Mela in Amritsar
The Society for Promotion of Science & Technology in India (SPSTI), Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), and the Amritsar District Administration have announced the Festival of Science (Vigyan Mela) at Khalsa College here is scheduled to run from November 18th to 20th. The three-day event aims to inspire students and engage them with science and technology through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities and creative competitions.
The Vigyan Mela would feature a variety of activities designed to make science both exciting and accessible. Notable attractions include “Lab on Wheels” and the “Circus of Science,” both of which aim to bring STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects to life in a fun and engaging way. In addition, the event would host competitions such as quizzes, poster-making and model-building, encouraging students to think critically and creatively.
The festival would also feature sessions led by eminent resource persons, covering topics such as visual geometry, health and innovative science, night sky watching, telescope making, robotics and drones, 3D printing and rocket making and launching. Specialised activity corners would be set up by the Punjab State Climate Change Knowledge Centre, the EIACP Hub, and grassroots innovators associated with PSCST. The event would also include a science book exhibition, film screenings and interactions with scientists, offering an immersive educational experience.
The inaugural session would be attended by guests, including Priyank Bharti, IAS, Secretary of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab; Sakshi Sahney, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar; Pritpal Singh, Executive Director of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology; Prof Arun Grover, former Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University; and Dr K.S. Bath, Joint Director of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology.
The event is expected to be attended by of over 8,000 students from schools and colleges across Amritsar, the Festival of Science promises to be a dynamic event that fosters learning and curiosity about science in an engaging as well as interactive environment.
