Karanbir Singh Chohan (27) has once again proved that if you have the grit and determination, sky is the limit. Chohan had secured 643rd rank in his second successful attempt at the UPSC and will now be undergoing training to be inducted into the Indian Foreign Services.
He had previously cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2019 by bagging 807th rank and was working in the Department of Defence when he decided to take the exam again in 2021.
A differently-abled person, having diagnosed with cerebral palsy from birth, Chohan is a strong believer in hard work. “I am the first one in my family to enter bureaucracy and I believe that my disability has absolutely no role to play in my success.” He said one faces challenges every day, but that should not define you as a person. “I am just gearing up for my training now,” he shared.
Chohan was diagnosed with 65 per cent cerebral palsy that has resulted in orthopaedic disability. But he takes on the world with the right frame of mind and enough intelligence to create a niche for himself. He said he wanted to sensitise people to the struggle of differently-abled persons. “I think all the talk about accessibility issues can only be implemented when the stakeholders involved are engaged in the solution. Basic infrastructure challenges have to be overcome with quick implementation.”
