Campus notes: Talk on AI held at DAV College
The Postgraduate Department of CS & IT organised an engaging and interactive session on “Building Applications with Generative AI”. Dr Parteek Bhatia, who is a distinguished visiting professor at Whitman College, USA, and a professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, was the keynote speaker at the session. College Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta told the students that such sessions help students remain abreast with the latest developments in “Generative AI”. The talk was held with an aim of providing a basic understanding of Generative AI and its real-life applications to the students in a simple and interesting manner. Dr Bhatia apprised the students on how ChatGPT model is trained over large datasets and how generative AI model is fine-tuned on small datasets for solving specific problems like diagnosing specific diseases and filing income tax returns.
USA varsity holds interactive session
Amritsar: Global Group of Institutes held an awareness and interactive session, with an address by Bayu Sutrisno, Assistant Director of Pace University, USA. The session was meant to make the students aware of the opportunities available to them for higher studies in the US. He informed the students about how they can avail the benefits by being well informed and opt for the institutes with better credentials. He said students of Global Institute can join the Pace University, based in New York, for their higher studies. Dean Training and Placement Col Sudhir Behal welcomed the guest.
Teacher training programmes
Amritsar: BCKD president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar today inaugurated a teacher training programme aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) schools, particularly in the rural areas. The first phase of the initiative, which began today, focused on training nursery teachers with innovative teaching techniques, designed to create more engaging and nurturing learning environments for young children. President Dr Nijjar, while reviewing the training programme, along with other CKD office-bearers, said the teacher training programme was a key component of the CKD’s broader mission to improve educational standards across its schools. CKD Director Dr AP Singh Chawla emphasised the significance of investing in teachers, adding that by empowering educators with modern teaching techniques, students receive the best possible start.
Applications invited for MTech
Amritsar: The GNDU has invited applications for MTech (Urban Planning) Programme, Guru Ramdas School of Planning, Guru Nanak Dev University for the few vacant seats. Prof Ashwani Luthra, Head of the Department, said the candidates willing to take admission against these vacant seats are required to apply on the university website: www.gnduadmissions.org. Eligibility for admission to the PG programme is bachelor's degree in Urban & Regional Planning/Architecture/Civil Engineering with at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for SC) in aggregate or master's degree in Geography/Sociology/Economics with at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for SC) in aggregate or any other examination recognised in the university admission prospectus. Last date to deposit the application fee and online application form is September 12.
