Amritsar: A seminar on ‘Positive Psychological Interventions for Enhancing Emotional and Mental Well-Being through Life-Skills Education’ was held at Khalsa College for Women (KCW). During this Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICCSR) sponsored seminar, experts called for a comprehensive approach to address societal well-being by integrating positive psychology with life skills. The chief guest was Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina. The keynote speaker, Dr Sandeep Kumar from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), stressed on maintaining good mental health, stress management strategies, channelising emotions in the right direction, taking out time for self, assessing own strengths, eating and sleeping well and exercising daily and asking for help when needed. Dr Akbar Hussain from Jamia Millia Islamia and Prof Davinder Singh, retired professor from Guru Nanak Dev University also highlighted the value of physical, mental and emotional health that can give us a balance which benefits our overall physical and mental health.

Pharmacovigilance Week

Amritsar: SBS College of Pharmacy celebrated the Pharmacovigilance Week by organising a guest lecture for the students and staff on Saturday. Lavish Kumar, Drug Safety Associate at Parexel International Pvt Limited, Mohali was the guest speaker on the occasion. Lavish Kumar enlightened the audience on various aspects of Pharmacovigilance, in particular the adverse drug reporting culture in the country. The seminar was followed by a question-and-answer session in which the students participated enthusiastically and cleared their doubts. Dr Sachin Saggar, Principal, SBS College of Pharmacy, said pharmacovigilance is a rewarding and promising career with good prospects for budding pharmacists and healthcare professionals. He added that with increasing focus on patient safety and the need for efficient drug monitoring, the demand for professionals in pharmacovigilance is on the rise.

CBSE volleyball cluster-2024

Hoshiarpur: Volleyball CBSE cluster matches were hosted at Silver Oak International School, Tanda, district Hoshiarpur, drawing teams from across the region, including Jammu, Haryana, Delhi, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. A total of 32 teams participated in this competitive event. Among them, Woodstock Public School's Under-14 boys' volleyball team shone brightly, securing an impressive third place and bringing home the bronze medal. Their dedication, teamwork and skill not only earned them a spot on the podium but also made their parents and school proud. Chairman of the school management committee Dr Satnam Nijjar, along with chairperson Satinderjit Kaur Nijjar, honoured the players, praising their achievements and motivating them to aim even higher in future competitions.

NCC camp concludes

Batala: A 10-day ‘Combined annual training camp’ organised by the 1 Punjab Girls Battalion at RR Bawa DAV College for Girls, Batala, concluded on September 20. The camp witnessed the participation of 422 NCC girl cadets from 13 schools and colleges from various districts of Punjab who showcased their dedication and discipline throughout the training camp. The primary objective of the camp was to provide these young cadets with an invaluable exposure to the regimented way of life and equip them with essential military training skills, such as drill, firing, physical training (PT), and yoga. Additionally, the cadets received comprehensive guidance in soft skills, crucial for succeeding in today’s dynamic world. The camp also featured an array of informative and inspiring guest lecture delivered by officials from various departments, including the traffic police, women police, cyber safety wing of the police department, fire department, Punjab Skill Development Mission and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited. Brigadier KS Bawa, Group Commander, NCC, visited the camp on September 19. He commended the cadets for their relentless hard work, dedication and enthusiasm. During his visit, the Group Commander also interacted with Dr Ekta Khosla, Principal, RR Bawa DAV College for Girls, expressing his gratitude for the unwavering support extended by the college in hosting this impactful training camp.

International Day of Peace

Amritsar: A seminar on the occasion of International Day of Peace was conducted by the coordinator of Raj Vidya Kendra, New Delhi. Homage to victims of 1965 Pakistan bombardment was paid by the students and faculty members. On September 22, 1965, 52 innocent residents in the city were killed due to unprovoked bombing by Pakistan. Principal Rajesh Prabhakar, Colonel Shiv Patyal, Kulbhushan Ratan, Coordinator, Raj Vidya Kendra, Sardar Jarnail Singh and Krishna Ballu, son of social worker Satish Ballu paid homage at the memorial.
