Campus notes: Logo Making Competition held
A logo making and character designing competition was organised by the Post Graduate Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Khalsa College, Amritsar, on the 65th Doordarshan Day. All students of the Journalism Department participated in this competition. The main objective of this competition is to educate and inform the students about the story and characters of Doordarshan from its inception to its success. The coordinator of the department, Prof Jaspreet Kaur, told the students about important facts related to Doordarshan, She said from the era of black and white transmission to 35 channels across its network, Doordarshan comprises of six national channels, 28 regional channels and one international channel. She lauded the students for their enthusiastic participation and congratulated the department for fostering creativity and innovation among the students. Sheetal Dhawan bagged the first prize, Romanjeet Kaur stood second and Shreya Arora bagged the third prize.
Tree plantation drive organised
Amritsar: The NSS unit of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised a tree plantation drive, in collaboration with National EduTrust of India, registered under the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with the aim to promote the idea of environmental sustainability. The event was graced by Amritsar II SDM Lal Viswas Bains. Under the campaign, saplings of dharek, sukhchain and jamun were planted in the lawn adjacent to the commerce block of the college. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia underscored the importance of planting trees to foster environmental consciousness and safeguarding the future generations from the repercussions of climate change.
Inter-department Carrom contest
Amritsar: An inter-department carom competition was organised under FIT INDIA Programme at Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 28 boys and 26 girls of various departments participated in this competition. In the boys’ category, the Department of UBS secured the top position, followed by the Department of Law and the Department of Computer Engineering. Meanwhile, the Department of Electronics secured the fourth position in this category. In the girls’ category, the Department of Mathematics emerged victorious, followed by the Department of Computer Engineering and the Department of Botanical and Environmental Science. The Department of USFS secured the fourth position. During the felicitation ceremony, Dr Amandeep Singh, Teacher in-charge of GNDU Campus Sports and Nodal Officer for FIT INDIA Programme, presented trophies to the winners. Dr Amandeep Singh lauded the students for their enthusiastic participation.
Hindi Department hosts poetry meet
Amritsar: The Hindi Department of Guru Nanak Dev University, in collaboration with Punjab Folk Art Centre, Gurdaspur, hosted a poetry meet and conference. With poets from Jammu, Kolkata and other cities, the conference witnessed performances by famous poets of Hindi language, who recited their works based on themes like patriotism, love, nature, beauty, culture, society and spirituality. Dr Vinay Kumar Shukla from Jammu Central University said ghazal is one of the most popular form of poetry. Prof Sunil Kumar, Head of Hindi Department, said various genres of poetry, ghazal and songs contribute in enriching the language and vocabulary. Besides, Dr Sudhakar Singh, academician from Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi, was also honoured with Prof Ramsajan Pandey Memorial Award.
