Amritsar: To mark the birth anniversary of the fourth Sikh Guru Sri Ram Das, Shri Ram Ashram Public School celebrated His ‘Prakash Utsav’ on October 16 with fervour and sanctity. He is also the visionary founder of the holy city of Amritsar, a symbol of spiritual and communal harmony. The students performed a wonderful skit depicting significant events from the life of Guru Ram Das, such as his service to the community and his role in spreading Sikhism. The skit highlighted key moments like the founding of Amritsar and his humility despite being a spiritual leader. School principal Dr Vinodita Sankhyan remarked that the teachings of Guru Ram Das inspire us to lead a life of simplicity, kindness and service to humanity. It is essential to instill these values in today’s generation, the principal said.

Nagar Kirtan by Chief Khalsa Diwan

Amritsar: Office-bearers of the Chief Khalsa Diwan and members welcomed a Nagar Kirtan organised from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and dedicated to the birth anniversary of Guru Ramdas on arrival at Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Bhagatanwala. The palanquin of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, under the umbrella of Panj Pyaras, was welcomed by the school band and the Kirtan team of the school. An exhibition highlighting Sikh history along with hand-made religious ornaments by the school students was also organised at the event. Nihang organisations and prominent personalities as well as the serving sangat were honoured with siropas. CKD members congratulated the Sadh Sangat on Gurpurab.

Group singing competition

Amritsar: Bharat Vikas Parishad, Amritsar Central, organised a group singing competition at Spring Dale Senior School. Students from various schools of Amritsar turned up enthusiastically to participate in the competition based upon singing patriotic songs in Hindi and Sanskrit. The chief guest at the inaugural event was Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjer, MLA, Amritsar South. Guests of honour during the event included Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, advocate Parminder Singh Sethi, Director, Punbus and Rajnish Sharma, Managing Director, Amritsar Diagnostic Centre. Dr Nijjer emphasised upon the need for efforts to instill the virtues of service and humility among the youth. Prof HS Walia shared that Holy Heart Presidency School was adjudged the winner at the competition. The second position was shared by Spring Dale Senior School and Bright Land Public School whereas the third position was bagged by Shri Ram Ashram Public School.

Dress Up Like SDGs Competition

Jalandhar: Mayor World School hosted an engaging inter-house ‘Dress up like SDGs Competition’ for students of classes III to V. The event aimed to creatively engage our young learners while raising awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each house represented three specific SDGs, showcasing their creativity and understanding of these critical global initiatives through their costumes and performances. The event was graced by Principal Divya Keni and Deputy Vice Principal Charu Trehan, who added prestige to the occasion. Shakespeare House, represented by Rubab Kaur Hothi of Class III, Aradhya Jagota of Class IV, and Sidharth Sharma of Class V, secured the first position. Wordsworth House followed closely, achieving second place, while Keats House earned third, with Dickens House rounding off the competition in fourth place. Special awards were also given to individual participants: Sidharth Sharma received the award for the Best Diction, Aradhya Jagota for the Best Presentation, and Nazakat Sahni for the Best Costume.

Cyclothon organised

Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, in collaboration with Central Depository Service Limited (CDSL), organised Cyclothon 2024 to mark the World Investor Week to generate awareness about the importance of savings, investments and protection from financial scams. The main theme of the World Investor Week is to stop the financial scams and it promoted the slogan 'Slam the Scam'. The cyclothon was organised by CDSL resource person and Head, Department of Commerce, Dr Jaswinder Kaur. The principal, Dr Navjot, appreciated Dr Jaswinder Kaur for conducting the event.

International Food Day

Jalandhar: Eklavya School’s Primary Wing enthusiastically celebrated International Food Day with a series of engaging activities focused on the importance of food and nutrition. The event aimed to promote awareness about healthy eating habits among young students. The highlight of the celebration was an interactive session led by class teacher Rubal, who educated students about healthy and unhealthy food choices. Through fun and informative discussions, students learnt how to make healthier decisions in their daily lives. Students also participated actively by delivering insightful speeches on the significance of International Food Day, highlighting the global importance of food security and sustainability. Principal Komal Arora emphasised the value of food and the importance of minimising food waste. Arora's encouraging words inspired students to be more mindful of their food habits and continue learning about nutrition.

Karvachauth celebrated

Jalandhar: The festival of Karvachauth was celebrated by the St Soldier Group of Institutions. The event was organised in the auditorium of St Soldier Divine Public School, Main Branch at Master Gurbanta Singh Marg. The chief guest on this special occasion was Group Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Chopra. She was welcomed by the school principal, Divpreet Kaur, and group staff members. The event was started by the chief guest by lighting the lamp. The schoolgirls applied mehndi to Chopra's hands. Various performances were performed by the teachers, which included dance, singing, etc. A modelling competition was also organised on this event in which the title of Miss Karvachauth was bagged by Priyanka, the first runner up was Himanshi, the second runner up was Sheena, the best hairdo was Kamaljit Kaur, the best dress was Parvinder Kaur, the best makeup was Anuradha, the best attractive was Mandeep Kaur, and the and the Miss Gleeful title was bagged by Mandeep Kaur.

Enhancing students’ creativity

Jalandhar: Apeejay College of Fine Arts promotes 'Earn while Learn' to instill confidence in them to become more confident. With the joint efforts of the Department of Fashion Makeover and NSS Wing, a grand event 'Shri', the festival of Karva, was organised in the college. Dr Neerja Dhingra (principal), while expressing her views, said, "We organise such events to enhance the creativity of students and give them the taste of being entrepreneurs.
