Campus notes: 15th Annual Maa Boli Mela
The premises of Spring Dale Senior School, Amritsar, came alive with traditional art forms, songs of love and spirituality and beats of dhol pulsating across the campus during the celebrations of 15th Annual Maa Boli Mela in the school. Having begun in 2008, this annual feature is organised by Punarjyot— an offshoot of Spring Dale Educational Society to promote the rich Punjabi tradition among the youth. This year, the cultural carnival dedicated to the legendary poet-scholar and Padma Shri awardee Surjit Patar, witnessed the active participation of participants from around 20 schools of the region. Delhi Public School, GT Road, Manawala, Amritsar, bagged the first prize in ‘Calligraphy’, while The Millennium School, Amritsar, emerged winner in ‘Poetry composition’. Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Khankot, Amritsar was declared the winner in ‘Multimedia’, Excelsum High School, Amritsar, bagged the top position in ‘Poetry recitation’ whereas Sri Guru Nanak DAV Public School, Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran was adjudged the winner in the ‘Folk singing’ competition.
Yoga competitions
On October 24, 2024, PBN School hosted an Elementary Yoga Competition, bringing together participants from nearly eight schools. Stalwarts World School students, including Aarav Singh, Daksh, and Samarth, actively participated and achieved third place in the Primary District Yoga Competition, winning bronze medals. Principal Manisha Dhanuka congratulated the students and encouraged them, highlighting that practicing yoga asanas enhances flexibility, strength and balance, contributing to overall physical health. She noted that yoga helps reduce stress, sharpens focus and promotes mental peace, inspiring everyone to make yoga a part of their lives.
Digital marketing hackathon
Cambridge International School, Amritsar, successfully hosted ‘The Ultimate Brand Challenge: Digital Marketing Hackathon’ on October 26. The event, designed to ignite creativity and foster strategic thinking, saw participation from 80 students representing 12 different schools. These high school students competed across six different industry tracks, showcasing their digital marketing prowess and innovation. The hackathon kicked off with a powerful workshop titled “From Clicks to Clients”, delivered by the school CTO Sukhsagar Singh that provided a strong foundation to the participants as it was in sync with the digital marketing strategies required for the competition. The teams were tasked with creating comprehensive digital marketing strategies for hypothetical brands across various sectors, including apparel & fashion, health & wellness, beauty & skincare, tech & gadgets, food & beverage, parenting & career consultation. The first position titled ‘Marketing masterminds’ was bagged by Guransh Singh Sond whereas the second title ‘Visionary strategists’ and the third ‘Innovative creators’ was bagged by Gursehaj Singh and Yuvraj Singh Basra, respectively.
Inter-Khalsa Sports Tournament
The Inter-Khalsa College Sports Tournament kicked off at Khalsa College main ground. More than 13 colleges are participating in various events in this two-day sports tournament. The chief guest on the occasion, Dr Mehal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Khalsa University, said the aim of the tournament is to instill a sense of sportsmanship and team spirit among the students. He said hundreds of students from various colleges under Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) were participating in the tourney. Officiating principal Dr AK Kahlon, KU Registrar Dr Khushwinder, Deans including Dr Kanwaljit Singh, T Kaur, Dr Surinder Kaur, staff and students were present.
Sports events organised
The 23rd Inter-Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School Tournament-2024 began at Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, GT road. Taekwondo, fencing, badminton and table tennis events were held. Mannat, a student of the school, took the oath on behalf of players to follow the rules and play the games without discrimination. Savinder Singh Kathunangal, while highlighting the importance of sports, said the Chief Khalsa Diwan pays special attention to education as well as sports and CKD students have won national and international awards in the field of sports.
Sarhali college wins kabaddi c’ship
Tarn Taran: The kabaddi team of Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Sarhali (Tarn Taran), bagged the overall championship trophy in the Inter-College National Style Kabaddi Tournament. The college team bagged the trophy in the B-division. Principal Dr Jasbir Singh said here today that the college team defeated the teams of SD College, Pathankot, Guru Nanak Dev University College, Pathankot, Baba Budha Sahib College, Bir Sahib, Thatha, Guru Nanak Nav Bharat College, Narot Past, Kapurthala to win the trophy. The team was honoured at a function organised in the college by Baba Sukha Singh, patron of the college managing committee on Monday. In his message delivered on the occasion, Baba Sukha Singh called upon students to shun drugs and other intoxicants and love the playground.
