Campus notes: 152nd birth anniv of Bhai Vir Singh
The 152nd birth anniversary of Bhai Vir Singh, the founder of Chief Khalsa Diwan, the father of modern Punjabi literature and a scholar of Gurmat literature, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Chief Khalsa Diwan Auditorium at Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, GT Road. He was remembered through poems and speeches recited by the school students. Chief Khalsa Diwan president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar said that Bhai Singh Ji has done invaluable contribution for the propagation of Sikhi. The Chief Khalsa Diwan is running the Bhai Vir Singh Literature Study Centre to provide readers and researchers with the works of Bhai Vir Singh and the writings of famous scholars about his life and literature related to Gurmat.
Girls brass band
Amritsar: The girls brass band of Partap World School (PWS), Pathankot, secured first position in the State-Level School Band Competition 2024 held at Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. Competing against 89 schools from across the state, the talented PWS team showcased unparalleled synchronisation, musicality and discipline, earning them the top spot. The PWS Girls Brass Band impressed the judges and audience alike with their captivating performance, making their mark as the best in Punjab. The following students were part of the victorious team: Vaishnavi Padhi, Vanshika Abrol, Akshra Abrol, Mani Gupta, Ayesha Mushtaq, Simran Bala, Nehan, Sana Qureshi, Angel Chib, Milli Sharma, Asmi Gupta, Liza Barik, Janvi Thakur, Pari Panna, Arooj Akhilaq, Keishvin Kour, Ira Sharma, Manasvi, Komalpreet Kaur, Jyena Reothia, Hadiya Farooq, Hafza Noureen Khan, Hitasha Jolly, Aliya Quyoom, Aditi Pathania, Navleen Kaur, Toiba Jableen, Kriti and Liaba Naseem. Director Sunny Mahajan, expressing his pride, said, “This victory is a reflection of the dedication and talent of our students and the untiring efforts of their mentors. At PWS, we strive to create platforms where students can showcase their abilities and achieve their dreams. Congratulations to our girls for making us proud.”
Round table visits
Amritsar: Members of Round Table, an educational non-profit organisation, visited Government Elementary School at Kotli village and distributed winter essentials to the students. 106 woollen track suits, socks, gloves and woollen caps were given away on behalf of Round Table India. Chetan Singh, president, Round Table and Nitin Mehra, Amritsar chair, shared that a fund-raiser was held to ensure that the students of the school received the winter uniforms ahead of the winter break. The team also visited the school and oversaw the infrastructure and interacted with the students.
Students win medal
Amritsar: Students of the Government Senior Secondary School, Balchivind, won two medals in the weightlifting competition at the 68th Inter-District School Games. Principal of the school, Kawaljit Kaur said that Jaskaran Singh lifted 602.50 kg in the 83 kg weight category and won the first place, while Gurpreet Singh won the second place by lifting 550 kg in the 93 kg weight category. Mohit Kumar lifted 350 kg and secured the fourth position. She further said that it was a matter of great pride for the school.
Quiz competition
Jalandhar: CJS Public School conducted a quiz competition for class UKG. The students gave tough fight to each other. Rules and regulations were explained in the beginning. It was an interesting, three-round competition including question round, time-bound MCQ round and buzzer round. Chairperson Neena Mittal and Principal Rajni Rani encouraged these students by giving certificates to the winning students— Agamveer Singh, Gursewak Singh, Prabhnoor Singh and Suhana Shukla.
