Anahad of Riadki School wins gold
Amritsar: Anahad Singh of Riadki School won a gold medal at the state-level for the first time in rifle shooting championship (Under-14 peep sight category) organised by the Punjab Education Department under the 68th state-level games at the State Shooting Range in Mohali. Anahad Singh Virk, a student of Riadki Public School, Tugalwala, made his institution, parents and Gurdaspur district proud by winning the gold medal in the championship. The institution’s administrator Gagandeep Singh, Director Manpreet Kaur and Principal Inderjit Kaur Saini said upon reaching the school, the gold medal winner Virk, a student of Class VIII, was warmly welcomed by the management and the student council of the school with enthusiasm. The school band played winning tunes on the occasion. Principal Swaran Singh Virk, Chief Executive of Riyadki Institutes, and hockey Olympian Balbir Singh Randhawa, a former student of Riyadki Institute, congratulated the staff, coach and students on this wonderful achievement. He inspired students to choose a sport and become proficient in it, while taking inspiration from Anahad Singh.
Punjab Open Football Tournament
Professor Chancellor, Khalsa University, organised the Joginder Singh Mann Memorial Punjab Open Football Tournament at Khalsa College Senior Secondary School sports ground under Khalsa College Governing Council. Khalsa Football Club president Manwinder Singh Attari said that Khalsa Football Club, Chak Sikander, Kuljit Football Academy, Kala Afghana, Left Dogra, Thande, Youngstar Football Club, Randhawa Club, Tarn Taran, Army Club and the Punjab Academy will participate in the three-day Open Punjab Football Tournament organised with the support of Inderjit Singh Gogoani. Twelve teams from across the state are participating.
World AIDS Day observed
Legal Literacy Club of the Goodwill International School, organised a special morning assembly on World AIDS Day. The assembly was based on the theme of this year, ‘Take the right path: My health, my right’. Students participated in the event by presenting poems and speeches, stressing upon the need to be aware about the disease, its causes and effects. They also charted out some recommendations for preventing this fatal disease. BA poster-making competition was held for the students. Principal Amandeep Singh also explained its causes, precautions and how we can be safe from this disease.
Int’l Day of Persons with Disabilities
The NSS wing of the Global Group of Institutes observed International Day of Persons With Disabilities with the students of Institute for the Blind. NSS volunteers interacted with the students to know first-hand the difficulties and hurdles faced by them in their day to day life. The volunteers also organised various activities for the visually impaired, who displayed their talent during the event. The visiting student volunteers went around the premises and observed the skills of students in different trades. Their skills, talent, dedication and workmanship despite being unable to see the world around them was highly appreciated by the visiting students. Dr Monika Arora and Srishti Raj, NSS coordinators, accompanied by Dr Jasbir Kaur, Karishma Jain and Mansi Kad presented gifts to the inmates on behalf of the management of Global Group of Institutes.
GNDU wins Runners-up trophy in fest
Guru Nanak Dev University has brought laurels to the state by securing the runners-up trophy in the Punjab State Inter-University Youth Festival 2024. The festival was organised by the Directorate of Youth Services, Government of Punjab, at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Dr Amandeep Singh, in-charge, Youth Welfare said that a total of 17 universities from Punjab participated in the festival. While Panjab University, Chandigarh, clinched the overall champions trophy, Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, secured the first runners-up position. The GNDU contingent, comprising over 200 students and accompanying faculty from various colleges, showcased their talent in 45 different disciplines. GNDU won various positions in this festival -- First position: Classical Instrumental (Percussion), Ghazal, Rangoli, on-the-spot painting, kadhai phulkari, mime; Second position: Jhoomer, Gidha, Bhand, folk song (Punjabi), classical vocal solo, Vaar gayan, classical instrumental (Non-percussion), Luddi, group shabad, Pakhi Bunana, Kavishri, Kali; Third position: Collage-making, on-the-spot photography, Nukkad Natak.
