The Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme launched by the Central Government has not been implemented in Punjab properly as the Aam Aadmi Party government has completely failed to bring big hospitals or multi-specialty hospitals under its ambit, alleged BJP leader Shruti Vij.

Shruti Vij, in-charge of BJP Mahila Morcha, said that the Central government has given a big benefit to senior citizens in their old age by implementing the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme for all who are above 70 years of age, whereas the Punjab government has proved completely unsuccessful in implementing the scheme.

She said that a maximum of 50 private hospitals in the city have been empanelled for providing health services under the scheme. Vij alleged that most large and multi-speciality hospitals are not providing treatment under the health insurance scheme.

The BJP leader alleged that on the health front, the AAP government in Punjab has only renamed many old hospitals and dispensaries as Aam Aadmi Clinics. She appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, Civil Surgeon and other officials of the administration associated with the scheme to ensure that all hospitals are empanelled so that patients can receive treatment at the one that is located near their residence.
