‘Bag-Free School’ day on last Saturday of every month in dist
Expanding on the No Bag day in all government schools, the district education department has issued instructions to district education department, Amritsar that all schools in the district will observe a ‘Bag-Free School’ day on the last Saturday of every month. This will be implemented across all schools for students in classes 1 to 8. District Education Officer (Secondary) Harbhagwant Singh said that the initiative aims to create a more engaging and joyful learning environment, reducing stress and promote overall well-being.
“This means that on bag free days, students will engage in recreational activities, learning through alternate methods through music sessions, and other tools and interactive sessions. The goal is to ensure that the school is seen as a place of holistic development,” he said.
The project was initially introduced in Fazilka primary schools, gradually expanding to Ludhiana and other districts. In line with NEP 2020, the CBSE had also introduced Bag free school day every month across all its schools. While the onus is to ensure that students also engage in creative methods of learning apart from textbook methods, the bag free day would also shift focus towards nurturing of creative expression and talent among kids. The new directions received through a notification has asked all schools heads to ensure its implementation effective immediately.
