Another international drug module busted in Amritsar
Amritsar, January 13
The investigation into the seizure of 1.5 kg of heroin from two persons led the Punjab Police to another drug module being operated from foreign shores.
The preliminary probe revealed that the racket was run by a Netherlands-based drug peddler, Lovely, having links with Pakistan- based smugglers. The seized contraband was smuggled from Pakistan through drones. Lovely’s name has cropped up for the first time in the illegal drug trade.
Amritsar Rural SSP Satinder Singh said yesterday they had arrested Akashdeep Singh and William Masih of Kandial village and seized 1.5 kg of heroin from their possession. The contraband was wrapped in three packets with adhesive tape hinting that it was smuggled from Pakistan.
The duo was produced in the court, which remanded them in a four-day police custody. The SSP said raids were carried out to nab their accomplice Najar Masih, alias Naja, a resident of Kurali village, Ajnala, who was on the run.
“Najar supplied contraband in and outside Punjab. He was in touch with Lovely. On his directions, Najar used to instruct his accomplices to retrieve narcotics from near the International Border,” said the SSP. Investigation also hinted towards their links in Dera Baba Nanak and Fatehgarh Churian, the SSP added. Najar had a case registered against him at the Ajnala police station. The police said Willam used to deal with hawala transactions of the drug network.
