Amritsar: Special lecture at GNDU
Amritsar: Dr Vartika Nanda, renowned media educator, prison reformer and head of the Department of Journalism of Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi, delivered a lecture under the aegis of Premchand Hindi Sahitya Parishad in the Hindi Department of Guru Nanak Dev University. In her pithy, creative and message-oriented lecture, she discussed in detail the various dimensions of society, literature and journalism and answered the questions asked by the researchers of the department. Dean, Faculty of Languages, and Head of Hindi Department, Professor Sunil Kumar, welcomed the keynote speaker and while introducing her, said Dr Nanda started her journey from a small town in Punjab. From achieving a historic feat as Asia’s youngest television anchor in her childhood to taking meaningful steps as a media teacher and a prison reformer, she is committed to spreading the light of education. As the founder of ‘ Tinka Tinka Foundation’, she has made great efforts to improve the conditions of prisons in India. In the year 2017, she was awarded the ‘ Stree Shakti ‘ award by the President of India.
Riddhima picked for shooting contest
NCC Cadet Riddhima of School of Eminence, Chheharta, under First Punjab Battalion NCC, Amritsar, has been selected for Inter Group NCC Competition. Principal Manmeet Kaur said Riddhima and Yashika participated in the selection group level thal sainik camp, which was held at Sukhjinder College, Gurdaspur, in which Riddhima, got selected. The selected cadets would participate in the Inter Group NCC Thal Sainik Shooting Competition at SRM University, Sonipat, Haryana, from July 10. Lt. Sukhpal Singh Sandhu told about the ongoing camp at Sukhjinder College at Gurdaspur, where various competitions were conducted among the students including map reading, firing, obstacle competitions and students were selected for inter group competitions.
Enrolment in computer courses begin
Colonel Daman Sharma, District Defense Services Welfare Officer, said 120 hours ISO Certified training programme has begun in SVTC Centre, running within the district defence services welfare office at Court Road. A basic computer course of three months is conducted, which is necessary for every government job.
