Amritsar police bust major drug and arms smuggling cartel, 3 arrested

Following the interrogation of an arms smuggler, the city police today busted a major drug and weapon smuggling cartel, confiscating a huge quantity of contraband and four pistols.

Three persons, including a 22-year-old girl, were arrested in the case. The police seized 8.27 kg heroin, 6 kg opium, and 13.1 kg of chemicals used to enhance the quantity of contraband, along with four sophisticated pistols and 17 live rounds.

The arrested individuals were identified as Aditya Pratap Singh alias Kaka (23) of Bhalla Colony, Chheharta; Shambhu Kabir (35) of Prem Nagar, Kot Khalsa; and Muskan (22), daughter of the kingpin, Sunny, who remains absconding.

Sunny has 26 cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, among other heinous crimes, against him. He was released on bail three months ago. Shambhu Kabir was also wanted in a murder case.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that Aditya was arrested on November 6 with two sophisticated pistols. During his interrogation, Shambhu Kabir was arrested from Guru Ki Wadali road in Kot Khalsa, and the police confiscated 275 g heroin, 11.1 kg of chemicals, and a .32 bore pistol.

Further investigation led to the seizure of 8 kg of contraband, 2 kg of chemicals, 6 kg opium, and a Glock pistol. Bhullar said additional recoveries are likely following the arrest of Aditya’s brother and the kingpin, Sunny.

Sunny allegedly used his family members for shifting and transporting drugs, including Muskan, who was also arrested.

The police have registered three separate cases in connection with this incident and are conducting further investigations.
